VIDOR MAN CONVICTED OF BANK ROBBERY

(Beaumont, TX) - United States Attorney Matthew D. Orwig announced today a 44-year-old Vidor man has been convicted of armed bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas.

ANDRE DAVID LEFFEBRE was found guilty by a jury this afternoon following a three day trial in federal court. Leffebre was also found guilty of using a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

According to information presented by prosecutors, on September 1, 2004, the Bank One at Parkdale Mall in Beaumont was robbed of over $60,000 in cash and checks by two masked men wearing hardhats and brandishing pistols. Surveillance film of the robbery was shown widely by local television stations which resulted in the identification of the suspects.

Shortly after the robbery, Leffebre was arrested by state troopers in Chambers County and found to be in possession of a firearm believed to have been used in the bank robbery. Leffebre was later indicted by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of Texas for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was then convicted and sentenced to nearly 25 years in federal prison for that offense. The other suspect in the bank robbery died of a drug overdose shortly after the robbery.

Leffebre faces up to 25 years in federal prison and a consecutive sentence of seven years in prison for the firearms conviction. Leffebre also could receive a fine of up to $250,000 at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
